Christian Bök
by Staff
I first met Christian whilst mentoring on VerticalCrypto Art's fifth iteration of its online Residency programme. A good-thinking bard, Christian Bök is an award-winning poet who has devised some of the most innovate use cases of poetry in the 21st century, including the earliest memes of the dot-com era, an anthology that uses the shortest word with every vowel of the English language ('Eunoia') and the first poem to be inscribed into the DNA of a living bacterium ('The Xenotext Experiment'). Christian took to Web3 in 2021 to explore new avenues for his experimental poetry. Crossing paths with B.A.D, I was fortunate to speak with him about his latest inventions.

What is the name by which blockchainart and cryptocollectibles community knows you?

Christian Bök.

Which company / institution are you representing?

The VERSEverse.

What is your professional background and career?

Experimental Poet.

Please give a short statement about yourself, your work, your art, your aesthetics, your vision, and everything else you want people to know about you as a person active in the blockchainart and cryptocollectibles space.

I am the poet who does the impossible.

How would you describe your art?

I explore the 'limit-cases' of poetry at the boundary between visual art and verbal art.

Which artworks, artists and styles do you admire the most, and which shaped you the most?

I am one of the founding members of the literary movement called Conceptualism (so I admire many of my peers in this group, including Kenneth Goldsmith and Derek Beaulieu, among others); moreover, I am a member of the Verseverse, and I admire my peers in this group, including Sasha Stiles and Ana Maria Caballero, among others).

Since when are you active in the crypto space?

Sept 2021.

What lead you to the blockchain?

I am an experimental poet — so I go wherever the experiments are occurring.

What is your contribution to the blockchainart, cryptocollectibles and NFT field? (artworks, services, dapps, projects, podcasts, etc.)

I contribute artworks.

Further info you'd like to provide re the creation process?

I strive to write poetry according to very challenging constraints in order to 'test' the characteristics of the language itself.

Whom would you recommend to be added to B.A.D's people portraits?

Sarah Ridgley.

On which platforms and dApps are your contents available?

Anything else you want the community to know? Or comments towards us at B.A.D?

I appreciate the support of my community — and I wish to thank B.A.D for its interest in my work.

Concise and to the point, B.A.D. sincerely enjoyed taking this interview with The Experimental Poet. Thank you again for your time, Christian! ☻
